About Lipstick & Brisket I don't know about you, but I cannot keep up with all the trends, fads, and advice on how to live your best life - or how to make life perfect for our families. This blog is about moving over the yoga mat and fermented kombucha (spelling?) just a bit, so that we can make more room to talk about the chaotic side of life too. We'll talk about everything from short recipes and fun products that make life easier-ish, to mental health, relationships, and that work-life balance struggle. So roll up your sweat pants, pour yourself another glass of merlot, and polish off that year-old box of graham crackers. This is your time.
About Me My name is Nurit Siegal and a I'm a writer living in Chicago with my husband and two little daughters. I've written for online and print magazines, such as Kveller, Joy of Kosher and FYI Magazine in New York. My idea for Lipstick & Brisket as a judgment-free zone for women and mothers came to me when I realized I'm not the only who drives up and down the street for an hour in hopes that my kids will finally take a nap.
I was a Women's Studies major at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and always wanted to write about the tough stuff women go through. I also became religious right after college, and through my experience working and living in very different communities, I've realized how much pressure women today of all backgrounds feel to be put-together, super-empowered, and perfect. No matter what your cultural or religious affiliation, I think we all could use a little more supportive girl talk and a stronger sense of community.
